Winter is here, kind of.
Winter has an icy grip on some of Southwest Montana's trout streams, but there are options. The Beaverhead downstream from Pipe Organ Bridge is open and producing some fish for resilient anglers. Remember, the Beaverhead is closed from the dam downstream to Pipe Organ Bridge until May 15th. Midge larva and small sow bug patterns are the ticket. We have seen a few rising to midges on warmer days. The always productive San Juan worm is also worth a try. Poindexter Slough is another option, not many anglers have been hiiting the slough, but small streamers, zebra midges, and small worms will produce fish.
