The Largest Bonefish in the Bahamas swim these waters......
The fishing is virtually endless with literally thousands of acres of pristine flats. A serious bonefisherman's paradise with everything offered practically at your fingertips.
~The entire area that surrounds Sandy Point is a rich tropical saltwater gamefish evironment.
The Lodge~
Pete and Gay's was built many years ago by the White family in Sandy Point. Before there were many anglers chasing bonefish, Pete and Gay White catered to a few individuals who were fortunate enough to find this hidden bonefish treasure. After Hurricane Floyd virtually wiped
out much of Sandy Point, new buildings brought new life to the sleepy little fishing village.
Pete and Gay's offers 14 well appointed air-conditioned rooms, each with private bath, cable TV, dressers, and plenty of closet space ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay. If you would like to step up your accommodations there are 4 suits that are available. The veranda upstairs overlooks the beach and dock area. Many enjoyable evenings have been spent up-top overlooking the the tropical traquility ambience.
Local Bahamian dishes are served daily with a special "steak night" each Thursday. The gals in the kitchen do an excellent job and always try to provide all of our clients with the best possible service. Coffee is served at 6:00 AM and a self established breakfast menu is at 7:00, with pancakes, fresh eggs, French toast,
fresh fruit, cereal, bacon, and so forth. Lunch is served somewhere on a distant flat, and dinner is served at 7:00 at the lodge. Excellent meals are the norm here, with local dishes such as Bahamian chicken, conch, fish with other specailities as lobster when in season. After dinner it is to sit back, enjoy the evening, talk fishing, and fade away into the sunset.

An area flavored by local residents, our travels have taken us to Pete and Gay's for a number of reasons over the years. The people in the area are genuine Bahamians and are as friendly as they come. We have developed great friendships with many of the local residents in Sandy Point and always find it fascinating to get back each year.
There are the huge bonefish, permit, baracuda, shark and mutton snapper that swim the flats in and around the Sandy Point area. And for the off-shore angler you will find mhai-mhai, yellow fin tuna, sailfish, marlin, wahoo, cobia and king mackeral. Truly a meca for the saltwater anlger!
The Fishing
Although it depends which flat you choose to fish for the day the size of the bonefish in this area is exceptional. We have personally seen fish, and had the opportunity to fish to them, that probably were over 15 lbs. easily. There is always that chance to hook one of these huge fish. The diversity and quality of the flats fishing in this area is mine-boggling. Ideally loacted, Sandy Point offers direct routes to many of the best secluded areas for fishing. Here you can travel to the Marls, Gorda Island, Mores Island, or to the South side. The sheer magnitude of the area is quite remarkable.
The average size bonefish in most areas run between 4 and 7 po
unds. You will find smaller fish in the Marls, but even there we have had great days with fish pushing to 8 lbs. Large fish harbor the backside flats from the Lodge. Some 2 thousand acres provide anglers the perfect opportunity to catch fish when conditions curtail the connections to other areas. But when conditions are right, which they are on many occasions, it's travel time. The runs to the other islands vary from 15 to 40 minutes. A trip to Mores, Gorda, or the South Side is always an adventure...and you never know what you might find!
Besides bonefish you will discover a golden opportunity to catch permit here too. Although not as plentyful as maybe southern Belize, we have found good numbers of permit and on most trips someone in the group lands one. They are seen on many flats throughout the area. They can run large in these waters, having seen fish over 50 pounds and on more than just a few occasions, it is definitely a place that may possibly kick out a world record in the future. The average size of these permit is between 20 and 30 lbs. Although many anglers target certain areas off of Abaco, our guides know the best places to find them. They are ocean fish that come in with the tides.
"I have taken permit in other locals, but these fish are the largest and healthest specimens I have fished for....and they love eating a Sexy 60's crab." Tim Tollett
The flats are mostly hard white sand intermixed with patches of turtle grass creating first-class feeding grounds all the while providing exceptional wading conditions. If you so desire you could wade one flat all day. Catch it on an incoming tide and fish it through the outgoing tide.

~The overall abundance of fish life is beyond fabrication and the diversity is overwhelming.
The Guides
All the guides at Pete & Gay's are very personable, hard working individuals who have a wealth of fishing knowledge of Sandy Point waters. Most of them have grown up in the area and since childhood have been running boats and catching fish. This is how they live - Born fisherman and if we say so ourselves do speak the language well. We have fished with the best in the area insuring that our clients are in good hands. Perry, Kirk, Dereck, Arthur, Patrick, and Wally; these are the guys that we have shared many outtings with. They work hard, are always one step ahead of the fish and have the eyes of eagles. They are accustom to poling or having their anglers wade the flats.
Wading the flats or poling looking for tails - it really depends on the choice of the angler.
Getting to Sandy Point
Flying to the Bahama's is quite easy from the states. Daily flights from Maimi, Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando to Marsh Habor, which is the main airport hub for Abaco Island, provide easy connections. Frontier Anglers can help with air travel if needed. Once you pass through Customs in Marsh Harbor someone will be there to greet you and transport you to the lodge. Around a 40 minute drive.
The transportation from the Marsh Harbor airport to the lodge is inclusive in your package price.
