We are having excellent dry fly fishing on the Big Hole right now! Skwalas are flying around and plopping in the river and that is probably your best choice for prospecting. A smaller chubby in #10-12, Luna Negra, Foam PMX...from there you can either run twin dries or a dropper. A good #14 March Brown imitation would be a good dropper dry fly...maybe a purple parawulff or other attractors. For your dropper a #14 Prince, a smaller BWO or a worm are a few ideas. There are definitely fish chomping BWO's in the soft stuff so pack some #18 BWO extended bodies for when you spot them. On a good day now you might stay dry or die. The forecast is calling for much warmer weather so get yours before things change too much.
PS. Black caddis have popped on the lowest reaches of the Big Hole. Be excited. The Mother's Day hatch is here and right on time.
